50-Day Mainland Mexico RV Caravan Itinerary

Day -1 – Sahaurita, AZ

Desert Diamond Casino Sahuarita is one of the four Desert Diamond casinos located in Arizona, with the remaining three gaming facilities situated in WhyWest Valley and Tucson. The Sahuarita-based casino is located south of Tucson, just off Interstate 9.

Day 0 – Santa Ana, Sonora

192km/119m This may be a short drive but is likely to be a long day as your Mexican adventure now begins heading to Santa Ana, Sonora a couple of hours into Mexico.  We head south on Hwy 19 from the RV Park,  crossing at the Mariposa Gate (US side) and Garita #3 (Mexican side) west of Nogales, the start of Mex Cuota 15D.

Day 1 & 2 – San Carlos, Sonora

309 km/119 miles – This will be the first full day of your Mexican adventure as we  head to San Carlos, Sonora just north of Guaymas.  We continue south on Hwy 15D and our final destination is the Totonaka RV Park (GPS 27.96331 N, 111.02450 W); Dan & Lisa Goy first stayed here on a family vacation in 2002.

Day 3 – 7 – El Fuerte, Sinaloa

357 km/222 m – Today we continue our southward journey on Hwy 15D taking us past Ciudad Obregon and Navojoa.  We turn inland at El Carrizo onto I-14 and our final destination, the Bugambilias Hotel (GPS 26.41019 N, 108.62633 W), in El Fuerte.

Day 8 – 10 – Las Glorias, Sinaloa

181 km/113 m – After many days in the mountains we are now headed to the beach.  First stop is the community of Las Glorias and the Playa Bonita Beachouse & RV Park (GPS : 25.29644 N, 108.52444 W) owned and operated by “Tavo”.  Along the way we will pass by the City of Los Mochis and turn to the coast at the City of Gusave.  Following our departure from Hwy 15D it will take us about an hour to reach our destination on good roads with little traffic.

Day 11 – 13 – Celestino Gasca, Sinaloa

291 km/181 miles – We should arrive at our next loaction around lunch time as we continue our journey southbound on Hwy 15D as we return to the coast.  Our drive will take us past Culican to our final destination, Celestino Gasca a seaside village community, north of Mazatlán and across the Sea of Cortez from San José del Cabo on Baja.  We will be stopping for body breaks and a fuel stop along the way.  We are headed for Villa Celeste Resort RV Park (GPS 23.80667 N, 106.88000 W), south of the village and will be here for the next 3 nights.

Day 14 – 16 – Playa Matanchén, Nayarit

371 km/230 miles – Another good start today as we are heading to yet another beach location, this time to an RV Park near San Blas. We return to Hwy 15D and just before Tepic we take the Tepic-San Blas Libramiento dropping down to sea level and Playa Matanchén.  Our destination is the El Chaco Restaurant, Bar, Hotel and RV Park (GPS: 21.49430 N, 105.18774 W). We should be arriving around luch time and have a fuel stop and body breaks planned.

Day 17 & 18-Etzatlán, Jalisco

202 km/126 miles – This is a shorter drive than many and almost all of it will be on either a Bypass or Hwy 15D!  We are headed for the  Campadritos RV Park & Cabanas (GPS 20.77301 N, 104.06472 W) located in Etzatlán at 4500′.  Formally called “Delia’s” the family also owns and operates an RV Park in Rincon de Guayabitos. Years ago many Americans leasedlots at this rancho, built permanent homes and spent winters here in the farming community.

Day 19 – 23 – Guanajuato, GTO

429 km/266 miles – Today to our destination is the Bugamville RV Park (GPS 20.94559 N, 101.25844 W) for our visit to Guanajuato, this will be alongerdrive.  The route planned is the most direct, and we have done our best to avoid Guadalajara and Leon.  Have a good breakfast, we do expect to stop for fuel shortly after leaving the RV Park, later a body break that will include lunch on the road.  We should arrive at the campground in the afternoon.  Thankfully our route will largely be on a very good toll hwy.  This is full service RV Park that includes Wi-Fi.

Day 24 – 28 – Tepotzotlan, DF

299 km/186 m – Today our destination is  Pepe’s Hotel Posada & RV Park, a full service park (GPS 19.72342 N, 99.22111 W).

Day 29 – 33 – Pátzcuaro, Michoacán

318 km/198 m – We depart at the usual time and should arrive at the Villa Pátzcuaro Hotel & RV Park, in Pátzcuaro, Michoacan (GPS 19.53388 N, 101.61088 W) early afternoon.

Day 34 – 36 – Villa Corona, Jalisco

8:00 am Departure, 373 km/232 m – We are getting a good start this morning as returning to 15D but taking care to avoid Guadalajara onwards to our destination, the Parque Acuatico Chimulco & RV Park (GPS 20.41233 N, 103.67156 W) in Villa Corona.

Day 37 – 41 – La Mazanilla, Jalisco

349km/217m – Our destination today is Boca Beach Camping and RV Park (Pg 189) 5km/3m north of the village of La Manzanilla. 

Day 42 – 44 – La Peñita de Jaltemba, Narayit

297 km/180 m – We get a good start today as we retrace our path to Hwy 200 and continue our journey north. Our scenic drive takes us past the communities of Emiliano Zapata, Costa Careyes, Chamela, Perula, Jose Maria Morelos, Campo Acosta, Tequesquite, El Tuito and Mismaloya. Just past the “Conalape” sign at KM 91.5 is the entrance to our destination La Penita Trailer Park (GPS 21.04607 N, 105.24207 W).

Day 45 & 46 – Mazatlán, Sinaloa

379 km/235 miles – We are getting a good start today as we continue our journey north, first to San Blas then we jump on a toll Hwy up to Hwy 15D.  Once northbound on Hwy 15D we return to Mazatlan and our familiar destination, the Baraka Villas, Beach Club & RV Park (GPS 23.29869 N, 106.48481 W), on the north side of town.

Day 47-El Carrizo, Sinaloa

464 km/289 miles – This will be a long day on the road as we retrace our journey on Toll Hwy 15D which is largely 4 lanes.  After leaving the campground we return to Hwy 15D and head north, past Culiacan, Guasave and the north side of Los Mochis.  Plan for a lunch stop on the road, a fuel stop and body breaks along the way.

Day 48-Guaymas, Sonora

228 km/137 m – We have reached the end of the tour and this morning we are headed for the Hotel Playa de Cortes & Trailer Park in Guaymas (GPS 27.91225 N, 110.94506 W) which has a full-service campground, pool, restaurant and bar.

Day 49-Santa Ana, Sonora

309 km/192 m – This is the end of the tour and your last full day and overnight stay in Mexico.  We are returning to the the Punta Vista RV Park (GPS 30.53556 N, 111.11642 W).

Day 50-Lukeville or Nogales, Arizona

260 km/161 m – The Caravan is getting a good start this morning and should be back into the US by noon.  We have a stop along the way to turn in the TIPs at a new Aduana installation at San Emeterio, this would be a great opportunity for a body break.
